The Ten-Plus-Three’s

Psalm 13, 43, 73, 103, 133
Have you noticed how many of these psalms express the feeling of impatience? “How long” seems to be a common cry of all ages. Psalm 13 expresses the feeling of being forgotten by the LORD, that the LORD is withholding His presence from the psalmist. Verse two speaks to an unsettled mind, unable to find peace. I know there have been times in my life when I just wanted to tell my mind to “shut up”, but was unable to get it to do so. I am glad I am not the only one who has experienced this. But even in this turmoil, he trusts in the LORD’s unfailing love. He doesn’t get sidetracked by an apparent delay.
Ever get a raw deal in life? Injustice come your direction? In Psalm 43 the writer pleads to God for help when the nation becomes unfaithful in their walk with God. Perfect timing for us! The writer pleads for God’s light and his care (v3). When things seem dark, a light switch is a good thing. And God brings His light so we can find our way into His presence.
It can be tough when you realize that you almost messed up, that you just missed a big train wreck. That is exactly how Psalm 73 starts off. And what was his close call connected to? It was connected to envy (v3). I have a few areas of envy. I have to be honest. I want some really fast MAC computers! I want a chipper for my yard waste. Looking at verses 4-5 it seems as though they are getting the red carpet treatment in life. But then you read the following verses and you learn that they gain that life by oppressing other people. Don’t be like them. Don’t waste envy on this kind of stuff. You will risk your family (v15).
If you are going to worship the LORD, put everything you have into it (Ps 103:1). Worship in abandon has benefits (vv2-6). The LORD is about grace (vv8-12). He knows us inside and out, and responds to us in light of that knowledge (vv13-18). And because of this, every being in the universe responds accordingly (vv20-22). So should we!
I love getting together with my brothers and sisters in Christ! there are few things in life that are greater (Ps133:1). It is like a day of pampering at a Day Spa! It is like the most refreshing mist on a hot day. Ceiling fans for everyone! Having spent a little time in the Middle East, HOT!!! does not even begin to describe the climate. Think dry sauna turned up too high. And no exit door. When we get together and live as God intended us to live, it is the best thing ever.
