12 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'If a man's wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him
Sometimes we need rituals to help with unknowns. This particular ritual would put to an end the suspicions and accusations connected to suspicions of adultery. The husband would have to accept the innocence of the wife and the wife could resume her life. That is of course if she is innocent. If she is guilty, then the Lord brought judgment on her. I don't think there is anything special about either the dust from the floor of the tabernacle or the ink from the scroll that was washed in the water that would cause a woman who was unfaithful to have the physical problems described here. But some things are beyond explanation. Perhaps the woman's guilty conscience caused her to have problems. Today, when there are suspicions of unfaithfulness, people spend years in doubt and questioning. They snoop around on cell phone records and search the internet for screen names. They examine underwear and credit card bills. Their suspicions get put on high alert, and usually they are miserable. It would be nice if there were a way to put all those suspicions in the past, wouldn't it?
