9Sept 2011 Isaiah 26:3

3You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

Peace in the middle of destruction. Is that possible? Isaiah is delivering a very strong message about the coming judgment to the nations of his day. No one who reads the words recorded there would want to live through it. As I read the words, I realized that there are millions who are living through very similar things today. Their cities are being torn apart by rounds of destruction fired in hatred and anger. Mechanized vehicles roam their streets firing on the innocent and the guilty alike. And what really saddens me is that I have had to participate in some of this peril. The LORD promises that even in the middle of this kind of destruction He will bring peace to those who trust in Him. This is a very remarkable saying. So often I can’t find peace in the middle of my ordinary day, let alone in the middle of a battlefield. The difference is the focus of our mind and the resolve we have to keep the focus on Him. Our trust has to be steadfast in Him. We must not waver in our commitment and resolve to serve Him. Even when the battle is raging, we need to trust in Him. If we shift and begin trusting in ourselves, or in some other deliverer, we are in trouble. Hope and change only work when the object of our hope is actually capable of delivering the change. We must be steadfast in Him. When we waver, we are getting ready to stumble and fall.
