Picky Eater

Proverbs 14:6-7
Some people just don’t want to hear the truth! In fact, they are so used to taking in the lies, that when the truth comes their way, they can’t accept it. It is as if they filter out the truth.
Did you hear that the arctic had half the usually number of days above freezing this year? That means that it will stay frozen much longer this year. But each side of the “warming” debate only hear the information that supports their position, and they each jump on information that pushes their agenda. Forget that temps have flattened over the last 18 years or so. Just point out the record heat or cold, dry or wet that supports whatever you want to push.
What happens to us is that we close ourselves off to things that don’t fit our understanding of the world. For the mocker, wisdom does not sound right, so it gets rejected. It doesn’t line up with how they have seen the world and understood their role in the world.
This is one of the reasons we need our mind renewed in Christ. Our thinking is messed up. Sin has changed the way we think. We don’t need to teach kids rebellion and disobedience. They do it naturally. But we do have to teach obedience.
We have to learn how the LORD thinks, acts, judges, motivates, loves, cares, encourages, and so many more things. We learn this by looking at Scripture and reading about His actions in the past. We learn it by seeing His Spirit working in the lives of other believers around us. We learn it by experiencing it in our relationship with Him.
I have watched my grandchildren learn to eat every kind of food. Eating everything seems natural to them. They have developed taste buds that accept a full variety of flavors and textures. I meet other parents whose children only eat certain foods. If it doesn’t have “Mc” in the name, they won’t eat it. These children will have a hard time in life. They reject healthy food.
Wisdom is similar. Our spiritual taste buds get used to what wisdom “tastes” like, and we want more. We accept it when it comes our way. It seems normal. By contrast, those who reject wisdom don’t know what wisdom “tastes” like, so they reject it. They get used to lies and how they sit on their stomachs. They get used to skirting around the rules. They get used to and even enjoy living on the edge of being caught.
